A mustard yellow 1967 Toyota 2000GT has been sold at auction for a cash green $1.15 million making the car from the Don Davis collection in Fort Worth, Texas, the most expensive Japanese production car of all time.
Now, before you think that this price is outrageous, you have got to realize that the Toyota 2000GT is not your great Aunt’s Toyota Camry. No sir, the 2000GT was and is a sought after sports car due to its beauty, artistry, and performance. Heck, the car cost $7230 in 1967 or about $50,000 in the depressed dollars of today. When it first hit the showroom floors nearly 40 years ago, the 2000GT cost more than the Jaguar E-Type, $5559, and the Porsche 911, $6190.
The Toyota 2000GT has a top speed of 135 miles per hour due to its lightweight and the 150 horses produced by its 2.0-liter overhead-cam inline-six.
