Mighty be the power of the word.
Take for example, the humble Toyota, a car brand that, recent recalls notwithstanding, is known for no-nonsense dependability with few thrills. A fine Toyota able to last a solid 10 years costs around $17,000.
Now, how about the anything but humble Aston Martin and its Cygnet, a fun little car that turns heads a plenty in cities across the European continent, how would think twice about plunking down $45,000 for this ride? Not many, after all an Aston Martin carries many times the cache as does a Toyota.
However, the sad truth is that the Aston Martin Cygnet IS a Toyota. The reliable Japanese carmaker makes the car and even offers its own version of the AM Cygnet at $17,000. With the exception of the emblem on its hood and some interior upgrades, the Cygnet that goes for $45,000 is the exact same car as the Toyota that sells for $27,000 less.
I am pretty sure I can guess which one my ex-wife would choose.
