Just two years after debuting the Cadillac Ciel concept at the at the Concours d’Elegance classic car show, General Motors has decided to pull the plug on the car that at one time it had hoped would be able to compete with the top-of-line models of its top rivals. Instead, GM now feels that that putting a $100,000 car into production just is not worth the effort, nor the cost.
This does not mean that Cadillac is out of the luxury market though. Automotive News has recently reported that the American carmaker is still developing a car to go head to head with cars such as the BMW 7 series and the Mercedes-Benz S class. Rumors are the that this car will be called the Omega and will sit an a rear-wheel platform. When it finally comes to market, the Omega will be Cadillac’s first full-size, $65,000+ sedan.
