The Acura TL was first introduced in 1995. The TL remained the best-selling car made by Acura until the MDX outsold it in 2007.

Performance

The 2013 Acura TL has two engines to choose from:

The base engine is a 3.5-liter VTEC V-6. This is essentially the same engine that can be found in the Honda Accord. It has a six-speed automatic transmission and can generate 280 horsepower.

The TL SH-AWD (Super Handling All-Wheel Drive) has a 3.7-liter V-6 with 305 horsepower. This version is also available in a six-speed manual transmission. The all-wheel drive system allocates torque left-to-right and front-to-back. This helps with fast emergency maneuvers and slippery surfaces. While the base model is more of a luxury sedan, the SH-AWD can be considered a sport sedan.

Fuel Economy

The base Acura TL get 29 miles per gallon on the highway and 20 in the city. However, the SH-AWD does not have that type of efficiency. It only gets 18 miles per gallon in the city, 26 on the highway. If you have the model that features the six-speed manual gearbox, you will only be getting 17 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.

Safety

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has given the 2013 Acura TL an overall rating of four stars for safety. This includes tests for both side and frontal impact. It has earned the honor of being one of their Top Safety Picks.

Another reason the TL got the Top Safety Pick award is the amount of safety features it contains. All TL models contain electronic stability control, Brake Assist, four-wheel disc brakes with ABF, and six airbags (full-length side-curtain bags and front side airbags). The rear headrests have the ability to flip out of the way when they are not in use. This provides the driver with better visibility.

Features

The base model of the Acura TL contains a high-resolution display mounted in the center of the dash, an eight-speaker audio system and a standard USB MP3/iPod interface.

If you select the Tech Package that is available, you will get an upgraded 440-watt Acura/ELS sound system, keyless entry, solar-sensing temperature control, a rearview camera and a navigation system with rerouting, weather and traffic information.

The Advance Package is the top of the heap in terms of Acura TL packages. In addition to all of the items mentioned above, it also includes 19-inch wheels, a blind spot information system and ventilated seats.
