BMW is so high on its just-debuted i8 hybrid sportscar that the German automaker says that there is little need to create and release a supercar version of it. This claim flies in the face of rumors that BMW was going to do just that and create a 650-hp M8.
BMW Group Head of Technology Communications Cypselus von Frankenberg said, “I don’t think that it would make sense to mix these two sub-brands in one car. We have the Ms, we have the i, and we have the BMW, the core brand.”
And, there is no doubt that the i8 is pretty fine all on its own, being a 362-hp hybrid boasting 94 miles to the gallon.
Now that the i8 has been officially unveiled at last week’s Frankfurt Auto Show, it is scheduled to roll onto dealership floors within two or three months.
