Car makers are using the boom in American oil and gas production to produce turbocharged cars that they never would have considered selling just a few years ago.

Ford Motor Co. leads the charge of making and selling turbocharged vehicles. Already, the company that Henry built has won hearts and wallets with its EcoBoost line of five turbocharged engines. However, eyebrows were furrowed from coast to coast when a Ford executive recently said that all of the company’s gas-powered engines may be turbocharged someday.

Volkswagen, a company that is not necessarily known for turbocharged cars, joined the act when of its executives, his fist full of sauerkraut, said that VW too will turbocharge all of its gas engines in just a few years.
