Consumer Reports is a publication that has long had a deserved reputation of being an organization that judges services and products with a clear and steady eye. Therefore, when it says that a car is “not recommended,” people gasp and take a step back.
CR has done it again by rating a pair of Japanese luxury cars, the Lexus IS 250 and the Infiniti Q50, as being not recommended, just about the worst ranking of them all in the luxury sedan segment. Fisher, CR‘s director of automotive testing, said, “This car seems to have lost its way.” Meanwhile the CR report says simply that the Lexus IS 250 scored to low on its tests to be recommended and that “It was the worst road test score posted by any Lexus sedan in recent memory.”
The report said that while the Q50 was:
“…very quick, even with the added weight of the optional all-wheel-drive system… [It] isn’t as much fun to drive as the G37. Handling is mundane, due in part to dull steering. The underwhelming driving experience strips the car of much of its sporty legacy.”
