Toyota, the car company best-known for making dependable cars for those who are not in love with cars, has turned heads at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show with its spectacular FT-1 concept car, a ride that looks as mean as a Camry looks staid.
Designed by the Calty Design Research team, the FT-1, acronym for Future Toyota, looks as if, some say, the concepts 2012 Lexus LF-LC and 2007 FT-HS had mated and produced a magical, Formula One-ish monster car. Talking about the fun and thought that went into the FT-1, Alex Shen, Calty’s Chief Designer said, “Our team was heavily influenced by Toyota’s sports car past, especially Celica and Supra, and we sought to capture some of that history. It is an aggressive, track-focused sports car concept with a presence that has been amplified for shock and awe.”
