Mr. Fancy Pants, I’ve got some sad news. It turns out that your expensive halogen headlight bulbs don’t let you see much further than do my old-timey halogen bulbs.

Consumer Reports, you know, the publication that knows all things quality, looked into the matter and found that while your premium bulbs are a fine light source if you like a “more intense or whiter light,” they don’t change how far you can see much at all.

To ensure that you get the most out of your headlight bulbs, regardless of if they are hi-tech or low-tech, Consumer Reports suggests that you keep your lamp lenses clean, replace the bulbs every few years, not just when they burn out, and do not mix standard and premium bulbs.
