2013 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Sets New Lap Record at Laguna Seca

The mighty 2013 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has bested the lap time laid down by the 2013 SRT Viper at Laguna Seca to set a new track record of 1:33.70. The SRT Viper’s time was by comparison an outright sluggish 1:33.77.  Both were nearly three seconds faster than a 911 GT3 RS.

When the SRT earned its time, it beat the previous record of 1:33:99 run by Chris Winkler, the Fonz’s brother, some three years ago. Pro driver Randy Pobst piloted both the Corvette and the Viper at the behest of Motor Trend magazine.

The Viper team is not taking the beating sitting down. No, the Viper brand boss Ralph Giles angrily tweeted:

“There is a lot more left in the car, Randy has always struggled with the Viper…We’ve tested both cars at several tracks and never seen a gap like that. Many drivers needlessly fear the Viper.”
