Audi is melding together that which is good about its Le Mans prowess with that which is fine in its consumer cars to come up with a post-R8 halo supercar that will do battle with such hyper-rides as the Ferrari F70, the Porsche 918 Spyder, and the McLaren P1.
Talking about such melding, Audi’s Wolfgang Dürheimer said in a recent written statement, “The victories on the world’s race tracks underscore our technical expertise in a particularly authentic way – and they strengthen our position on the most important world markets.”
At the recent 2013 Detroit Auto Show, Dürheimer was overheard as having said that the hypercar, codenamed R20, will, if it makes it to production, be perched atop Audi’s fine line of production cars. Though nothing has been officially released, industry insiders believe that the R20 will contain technology made for the all-wheel-drive R18 E-Tron Quattro racecar that is powered by a turbo-diesel V-6 with a flywheel-based kinetic energy storage system.
