Whispers are slipping out of Detroit saying that the next-generation Focus RS model may be getting an active front limited-slip differential. Though most details about the speedy hatch remain secret, the word on the street is that this differential is needed to help control the torque steer of a vehicle that will boast 350 or so horsepower.

The rumor is that Len Urwin, powertrain engineering manager for Ford’s European performance division Team RS, was impressed when he recently tested a GKN active differential in Sweden saying that it has made the list of items that might make it onto the next Focus Rs. If the focus does indeed get fitted onto the future Focus, it’s mechanical and electronic mechanisms and slippage detectors will replace a differential that is fully electronic.
